About me
I am an illustrator based in Los Angeles. Most of my work is concentrated in illustration, painting and digital visual development for Animation. I was born and raised in a small town in Puebla, Mexico. At an early age, I was exposed, embraced and nurtured by nature's colors and textures as I worked by my grandfather's side tilling cornfields. Thanks to my mother’s color pencil drawings and Japanese animation of the time, I began exploring art with more enthusiasm. And as I grew up, I was influenced and inspired from traditional western art to contemporary art and animation. I have sought to apply these aesthetics into my artworks. Sometimes I juxtapose nature and technology to make contradictory statements. My goal as an artist is to capture nature’s essence and enchantment.
As I improved my skills I came to realize that art, other than just being a beautiful way to express one self, could also be used as a tool for social awareness. As an artist, I enjoy different techniques and mediums, but I mostly enjoy conceptual works like those of Jorge Gonzales Camarena, Alphonse Mucha, Rembrandt and Nathan Ota among others. In more recent years I have been greatly influenced by the works of my ancient ancestors of Mexico, the Mayans as well as the Native North Americans. Their intricate painted words, styles and cultural ideology has helped me view my surroundings differently as an artist.
I have worked closely with non-profit organizations as an illustrator as well as a general graphic editor. In the summer of 2012 I received the UCLA Labor Center Certificate of completion DREAM Summer National Internship after completing an internship as an illustrator at the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture of UCLA (CESLAC). Some of my works have been exposed at California State University, Northridge West Gallery and at Los Angeles Print Space Galley.
